About Our Specialty Teams
Our Specialty Teams are dedicated groups of community members who contribute their skills, creativity, and time to support the ongoing operations and programming of Sapphics in the City.
Unlike general volunteers, who typically support individual events, initiatives, or service opportunities based on their availability, Specialty Team members take on consistent, behind-the-scenes responsibilities that help keep our organization running.
Specialty Teams currently include our Events Team and Social Media Team, each playing an essential role in how we engage with, communicate with, and create experiences for our community.
What Makes Specialty Teams Different?
While all volunteer contributions are valuable, Specialty Team membership comes with an additional level of involvement and accountability.
Ongoing Commitment: Members are expected to actively contribute at least once per month through meetings, projects, assigned tasks, or event support.
Defined Responsibilities: Rather than signing up for individual volunteer opportunities, members contribute to a specific area of organizational operations.
Collaborative Planning: Members participate in brainstorming, decision-making, and executing projects alongside their team.
Greater Accountability: Members are expected to communicate consistently, meet agreed-upon deadlines, and follow through on commitments.
Organizational Investment: Members take time to understand our mission, values, community culture, and approach to creating inclusive spaces.
Specialty Teams vs. General Volunteers
General Volunteers provide flexible, as-needed support for events, programs, and community initiatives. They can choose opportunities that align with their interests and availability without committing to ongoing team responsibilities.
Specialty Team Members take on recurring responsibilities within a designated team. They help plan, coordinate, create, and execute the work that makes our events and community programming possible.
Our Expectations
Joining a Specialty Team means making an intentional commitment to the organization and the community we serve.
We recognize that our members have responsibilities outside of Sapphics in the City, and we do not expect unlimited availability. However, we do expect consistency, communication, initiative, and follow-through.
Specialty Team membership is not simply a title or an opportunity to be involved when convenient. It is an active role that requires meaningful participation and a shared commitment to the success of our organization.
Our community relies on the people working behind the scenes, and we take that responsibility seriously.
We are only seeking team members for our Events team at this time.
Applications for Events team members are open until November 1st at 11:59PM PST.
